WHAT WE DO.

The Harriott & Solomon immersive portraits experience blends the past with the present. Initially inspired by Victorian and Edwardian portraiture, we invite the mergence of individuality and self-expression. We physically and emotionally transform guests from passive participants to stepping into a new character by combining storytelling, costume, spacial design and portraiture; experiencing a unique new exploration of their own character and identity.

THE EXPERIENCE.

The experience begins before the shutter is pressed: Our guests choose their character, encouraged to experiment with masculine, feminine or androgynous styling, embracing the freedom to mix, match and express themselves through costume and storytelling. Entering the set, handling the props and being informed & inspired to take part within our created world. People are given permission to play, perform and see themselves in a unique way.

 

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE SESSION.

At our next event, the I Love North Shields Vintage Market on Sunday 25th October 2026, our sessions are 20 minutes in duration. You will choose your costume, based on actual historical characters from the 1970s, and be styled by Mark, every detail from hair and simple touches of makeup or jewellery to clothing. The clothing is designed to be back fastening, so it will sit over your own clothes. Once on set, your character will be brought to life by the storytelling of photographer Emma. Knowing more about your character will make it really come alive and help you feel akin with the character. We will capture a couple of photographs, and print your favourite one off ready for you to take home with you.

WHAT DOES IT COST?

The 20 minute session cost £25 and it includes a photographic print in presentation wallet for you to take with you. You can purchase additional prints on the day, or order posters or larger format for delivery after the event.

HOW DO WE BOOK.

We have capacity for maximum four people on set at a time, and can photograph three per hour. You can pre-book your session in advance, to guarantee a time slot. Our sessions start at 10am and run through until the last one at 4pm, every 20 minutes. Let us know approximately what time you would like to book in.

About the Creators

Mark Harriott

Mark Harriott is a set designer, stylist and creative director with a passion for immersive experiences, visual storytelling and theatrical design. His work blends craftsmanship, imagination and attention to detail to create environments that transport people into another world. For the Portrait Parlour, Mark has drawn inspiration from the heritage of North Shields, creating a set that honours the area's proud fishing history while inviting visitors to become part of the story.

Emma Solomon

Emma Solomon is a portrait and brand photographer based in Whitley Bay, specialising in relaxed, authentic photography that captures genuine personality and connection. From families and newborns to business owners and creative entrepreneurs, Emma's work focuses on telling stories through natural, engaging imagery. Through the Portrait Parlour, she brings together her love of people, photography and local heritage to create a unique experience that visitors can take home as a printed keepsake.
